Exercise Matte: Caring for Your Skin at the Gym

Tatum's Tip: At the gym...don’t wear makeup.

Why? Sweat alone can aggravate your skin (which is why it’s usually a good idea to wash your face with an anti-bacterial cleanser immediately after a workout); when sweat mingles with makeup and runs all over your face, you’re even more likely to wind up with clogged follicles and an eventual acne breakout.

Tatum's Trick: A tinted moisturizer can provide some coverage, as well as hydration and SPF. (And if you’re working out hard enough, you should get a nice, natural flush anyway!) Can’t skip the makeup altogether? Wear non-comedogenic, waterproof makeup containing zinc, and wear as little of it as possible.

Jane Iredale

Tatum’s Tools: Jane Iredale Dream Tint. This tinted moisturizer from “the skin care makeup” will not only mask imperfections, but it also hydrates, prevents water loss, calms inflammation and improves the skin's elasticity.

Jane Iredale Amazing Base Mineral Foundation or PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation. These pressed and loose mineral foundations are a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in one. The water-resistant formula means the product (and bacteria!) will stay put as you sweat.

Bonus Trick: When you reach for the towel to wipe away that sweat, make sure you blot the skin lightly. Don’t dab too hard or wipe the towel all over your face because you’ll spread bacteria and clog your skin follicles.
